Arlington Friends House is looking for a new housemate

4852860_origOur friends at the Arlington Friends House are looking for a new housemate, starting Oct 1! This is a super cool community and worth looking into. Details below!

THE HOUSEHOLD: Although we include different ages (15-61), orientations, religions, and professions, we live as a community with the shared values of simple living, equality, and integrity. We shop, cook and eat together, sharing dinners most nights; each of us cooks for everyone one night a week (vegetarian meals). We share all food supplies, each contributing about $40 per week, as well as cleaning and upkeep. This includes weekly chores as well as six major house work days per year. We hold house meetings every other week and make decisions using a consensus process. (Our household also includes a dog and a cat, so we probably can’t take more.)

THE MATCH: Our ideal housemate will have experience with shared living, and be a great communicator: someone who enjoys working in groups, who is looking for a long-term home (at least 18 months), not just a place to stay, and who wants to create community. (Singing, contra-dancing, bike-repair and gardening skills optional.)

THE LOCATION: It’s a quiet, safe neighborhood, near a park and a pond — only blocks from Mass. Ave., with its shops, public transit and Minuteman bikepath. Many housemates have commuted to Tufts, Harvard, Lesley, MIT and downtown.

THE SPACE: The room available is on the second floor, about 12×15, with wood floors, treetop views, lots of sunshine, and a working fireplace. It rents for a total of $700 including all utilities (water, gas heat, electricity, and wireless Internet).

THE PROCESS: If you’re interested, please don’t reply directly, but visit our website at www.ArlingtonFriendsHouse.org to learn how we work! Then, if you think you’d be a good fit, fill out the application on the Getting Involved page, and paste it into an e-mail to the Contact link there.
